WEEE in Romania: what applies if you ship electrical products
Anything that needs electricity or a battery to do its job is electrical and electronic equipment. If you ship such products to customers in Romania, you are their producer here under the Romanian WEEE rules, in addition to your packaging obligation. Registration in your home country's WEEE register does not extend to Romania.
Products that surprise sellers
WEEE reaches much further than large appliances. In practice, these all count:
- Small kitchen and personal-care devices, hair tools, electric toothbrushes.
- Chargers, cables, power banks, adapters and USB accessories.
- LED lamps, light strips and lit decorations.
- Toys and sports items with any electronic function.
- Furniture, textiles and clothing with lights, heating or motors built in.
What the obligation consists of

How WEEE interacts with packaging
They are separate registers and separate reports, but the same shipment data feeds both. The weight of the device goes into the WEEE report; the weight of the box, filler and mailer goes into the packaging declaration. Getting both from one dataset is exactly why we set the product table up once, properly, at the start.
Sellers who register only for packaging often discover the WEEE gap during a marketplace compliance check or an inspection, when the remedy is retroactive rather than routine.

- We only sell accessories, not appliances. Are we in scope?
- Cables, chargers, power banks and LED items are electrical equipment in their own right. Low unit weight keeps the amounts small, but it does not remove the registration duty.
- Our WEEE registration in another EU country — does it help?
- It covers that market only. WEEE registers are national, which is also why a single EU-wide registration does not exist despite the rules coming from an EU directive.
- Who physically takes back the products?
- A licensed collective scheme in Romania, under contract. You do not need a Romanian warehouse or your own collection network.
- Can you act for us on WEEE as well?
- We set up the registration, the scheme contract and the reporting cycle. The precise representative arrangement per stream is confirmed with you in writing before we file anything.
