Shipping from Hungary, Poland or Czechia to Romania

Romania is one of the largest destination markets for webshops in the region, and the shipping is easy enough that the compliance side is often skipped. Your domestic registration — MOHU in Hungary, BDO in Poland, EKO-KOM in Czechia — has no effect in Romania. The parcels that cross the border place packaging on the Romanian market and create a Romanian obligation.

Why this market catches sellers out

  • Short distances and cheap courier rates make Romania feel like an extension of the domestic market. Legally it is not.
  • Volumes build up fast, so an unregistered period gets expensive quietly rather than suddenly.
  • Romanian obligations are monthly, so a gap is measured in filings missed, not in one late annual report.
  • Marketplaces and larger B2B customers increasingly ask for proof of Romanian registration.
  • Environmental Fund obligations are fiscal in nature and can be reviewed for past periods.

What we take over

We act as your authorised representative in Romania: registration, the scheme contract, the monthly calculation and filing, the payment amounts and deadlines, and any correspondence or inspection that follows. You keep sending one shipment file per month in whatever format your system exports.

Hungarian-speaking clients can work with us in Hungarian throughout, and we also maintain a Hungarian-language version of our core pages.

Already shipping for years?

Then the first question is how far back the exposure goes. We assess it in writing before you decide anything, and voluntary regularisation is usually the cheapest route out.

Frequently asked questions

We ship only a few hundred parcels a year to Romania. Does it matter?
Yes — there is no minimum threshold for distance sellers. The contribution at that volume is small; being unregistered while a marketplace or an inspector asks for proof is the real cost.
Can we handle Romania from our own office?
The filings require a Romanian portal account, a qualified signature and Romanian-language handling, and a producer without a Romanian establishment acts through a representative here. In practice, no.
Do you speak Hungarian?
Yes. Meetings, email and documents can all be in Hungarian; the filings themselves are in Romanian, done by us.
